About The Blog
Memoirs of a Pre-Med is a blog about a pre-med's journey to medical school. Stories are given about the student's experiences whether it be from taking a biology midterm, learning about leadership, pictures of a hobby, technology tips, or taking care of a patient in a hospital. Many health professional and pre-health blogs focus entirely on health-related topics or academics but my memoirs focus on many other aspects because a clinician, a health care worker, and a student are more than the medicine they practice and the patients they live to care for.
HIPAA
This blog is compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The purpose of the law is to increase the security and privacy of patients regarding their medical information. While there are no rules written specifically for blogs, health care workers and medical staff's responsibility is to protect the privacy of a patient's medical information. An example includes not talking about their information/condition/etc over the phone, in hallways, or outside of the health care facility.
Therefore, stories written about patients in Memoirs of a Pre-Med give no identifiable information. If identifiable information is given, the expressed permission of the patient is received.
